Arctic boys choir festival 7 August – 11 August 2024

Ung i kor and Ung kirkesang, can proudly invite you and your boys’ choir to the Arctic boys’ choir festival in Bodø in August 2024. The festival is part of ARCTICulations of faith (Bodø2024) and of other things happening at the same time in Bodø are Nordland music festival week and UNOF (The Young People’s Orchestra Association). There are great opportunities to experience fine musical events. During the festival, the choirs will be able to sing separately at the concert on Saturday, in addition to gathering all the participants in a joint choir (both the concert on Saturday and the service on Sunday).

Conductor for choir with everybody is David Newsholme!

David Newsholme is Director of Music at Canterbury Cathedral, where he is responsible for the training of the choir, and for all other musical aspects of the cathedral’s work. David trained as a chorister at Worcester Cathedral. He held the organ scholarship at Salisbury Cathedral before studying at New College, Oxford and at the University of York. David was Assistant Director of Chapel Music at Winchester College, before moving to Canterbury in 2011 to become Assistant Organist. In 2014, he became the founder of the cathedral’s girls’ choir, before taking up his current position in 2021.

Joikeseminar with Andrine Øvervoll Eivik

During the boys’ choir festival, we will have the pleasure of having a singing seminar with Andrine Øvervoll Eivik. Andrine is a widely used instructor and comes from Hamarøy. Here she works in the Lule Sami congregation with the development of Lule Sami church life and responsibility for the diaconal work. The results of the joike seminar will be performed at the concerts and church services during the festival. We look forward!

Bodø2024 – European Capital of Culture

Bodø 2024 is the largest cultural project in Norway in over 10 years and the largest in Northern Norway ever.

Because it is here, north of the Arctic Circle – at 67 degrees north – that there are over 1,000 events during an entire year.

Arctic boys’ choir festival is one of the program items of ARCTICulations of Faith (part of Bodø2024). Through various artistic expressions, projects will show how religion and faith have been – and are – fundamental to people’s interpretation of life and living conditions in the north. All projects under ARCTICulations of Faith can be found here.
